Australian Boer Goats
The Boer Goat breed was imported to Australia in the late 1980's and was released from Quarantine in the mid 90's. Since this time the popularity of the Boer goat has seen numbers rapidly increase due to their high growth rate and excellent meat yield qualities.
Australia is now the largest exporter of goat meat in the world with Australian farmers and graziers turning to goat production as a profitable alternative to traditional farming.
Named after the Dutch word 'boer', meaning farmer, Boer goat stock can be characterised as having a fast growth rate and desirable carcass qualities making it the most popular goat meat in Australia. While most Boer goat stock has white bodies and brown heads, some Boer goats in Australia can be seen to be all white or all brown.
